Windows XP Support
As many of you may be aware Microsoft removed Support and security updates for Windows XP on April 8th 2014.
Microsoft provided support for Windows XP for the past 12 years. But the time came for us, along with our hardware and software partners, to invest our resources toward supporting more recent technologies so that we can continue to deliver great new experiences. As a result, technical assistance for Windows XP is no longer available, including automatic updates that help protect your PC. Microsoft Website
What happens now?
Microsoft reccomends you upgrade your P.C. to the latest operating system (which is currently Windows 8.1), unfortunately it is never that simple. You may have software that was written for Windows XP that is not support by later operating systems. A common program is Sage Accounting software which only later versions are supported by Windows 7 & 8. You need to audit your pc and double check to make sure that all your day to day software will run on a later version of windows. You also need to check that all your hardware will run on a later version of Windows. Some hardware is not supported and some hardware is just not powerful enough.
What Blowfish Technology can do?
We can totally audit your equipment and determine what software will run and won't run on the later version of Windows. We can determine if your equipment is suited for the upgrade and recommend alternatice hardware if there is a requirement. We can then also make it a hassle free process in moving away from Windows XP by doing the migration for you, making sure all your data is safely backed up before we migrate.
What happens if you don't do anything?
If you continue to use Windows XP now that support has ended, your computer will still work but it is more vulnerable to security risks and viruses then newer versions of Windows. Vulnerabilities have already been found in Windows XP which are not going to be patched by Microsoft which could risk all your data and your Business. There are viruses which can take over your Operating System and encrypt (lock) all your data files. The system will then lock up and demand a ransom to unlock your files. 9 times out of 10 you will never get your files back.
If you are still running Windows XP. Please do not hesitate in contacting us for advice and guidance on moving to later operating systems.
